Hildebrand Takes First-Ever Professional Pole for Pacific F2000 Race at Infineon Raceway
Sonoma, Calif. (July 15, 2005) -- J.R. Hildbrand, from Sausalito, Calif., will start from the coveted pole position, heading a strong 32-car field for this afternoon's seventh round of the Pacific F2000 Championship Presented by Mickey Thompson Tires/Cooper Tire race at Infineon Raceway.
The 17-year-old high school student has finished each of the first six races this season on the podium with the #66 Jim Russell Racing School/Spy Optic Mygale SJ04, entered by Fresno-based PR1 Motorsports, and has high hopes of translating his first-ever professional pole into his first pro victory in this afternoon's 30-minute contest, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. local time.
"The car was very good and I felt very comfortable," said young Hildebrand, who won the SCCA Formula Russell Championship, based at Infineon Raceway, last year. "I think we should be in good shape for the race."
Fellow teenager and series rookie Robert Podlesni, from Thousand Oaks, Calif., posted by far his best qualifying performance to date in the #84 Dave Freitas Racing Van Diemen RF03), taking a solid second on the grid ahead of series points leader Mike Forest, from Edmonton, Canada, in the #8 Dynacor/Miracle Sealants/Earth Water Mygale SJ04.
Series debutant Dane Cameron, from Sonoma, Calif. -- the youngest driver in the field at just 16 -- was fourth quickest in qualifying in yet another PR1 Motorsports Mygale, backed by Rick Waddell's Drive4USA program.
