Pecorari Captures Second Consecutive Pole Position at Infineon

SONOMA, CALIF. (July 17, 2004) - Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., captured the pole position for Round Eleven of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, at Infineon Raceway. Completing the top-three is Bobby Wilson, of Dousman, Wis. and Ian Lacy, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Racing at Infineon for the first time since 1993, the Zetec Championship cars took to the track for qualifying early Saturday morning. Having run three test sessions on Thursday and two practice sessions on Friday, the drivers immediately set about attacking the 2.53-mile road course. Steadily working his way up the grid as the session progressed, Pecorari posted the fastest lap late in the session. At the conclusion of the 20-minute session, Pecorari had captured the pole position with a new lap record of 1:34.085 (86.207 mph). The pole is the second consecutive for Pecorari, in the No. 28 SAI Hydraulics Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford, who captured the pole position at Mid-Ohio with a lap record.

"The track had a lot less grip this morning," said Pecorari who posted the second fastest time in Friday practice despite crashing in the second session. "The Andersen Walko Racing crew did a great getting the car back together and making sure I was able to challenge for the pole. With all the places to pass I think it's going to be an interesting race. Hopefully I can keep my win streak alive."

Completing the top-five in qualifying for Round Eleven is Ian Lacy, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. and Andrew Prendeville, of Monroeville, Pa. The green flag for Round Eleven of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (PT), Saturday, July 17, 2004.
