Caracas, 06.15.2007, Ricardo Vassmer took a podium finish at Race 6 of the US F2000 Championship Series, with a starting grid of 37 drivers. Ricardo finished 4.th on the Saturday race, and finished 3.d on the Sunday race, having qualified 3.d for both races. Both races where filled with intense fighting for positions. A hard accident in lap 1 of the Saturday race cut the race laps to almost half, as it took about 10 minutes to clear the track from the wrecks. Ricardo posted the fastest lap time of the event during the second free practice session from Thursday (1.54.543) . and he lost his pole position for Race 1 on the very last lap of the qualifying session. The second fastest lap time of the event was set by his team mate Terrick Mansur (1.55.2 Pole Race1), and the 3.d fastest lap time was set by Cole Morgan, winner of both races (1.55.3 Race 2).
Ricardo commented " The team Andersen Racing purchased a new car for me for this race weekend, and they did an amazing job to get the car ready on such a short notice. We started with outstanding speed, and the car was a top performer all weekend long. During the few test, qualifying and race sessions we tried different set ups, and we will be fine for the upcoming Cleveland event". This first podium finish shows that we are heading in the right direction. I would like to thank my engineer and mechanic for the outstanding job and hard work. Mike Andersen, the team drivers coach and multiple national F2000 champion, gave me valuable help to understand this track, which I had not raced before"
The race results of this weekend promotes Ricardo from Pos.12 to Pos.6 on the Championship points table. (P5 with 2 drops). Ricardo did not participate in Round 1 and 2 of the US F2000 Championship Series, due to his commitment to the Star Mazda Series.
The next event of the US F2000 Championship Series is scheduled for June 22 - 24 in Cleveland, as event opener for ChampCar Worlds Series.
