Philip Metzger Returns with Team G.FRO for 2007 Pacific F2000 Series
March 5, 2007 - San Clemente, California-based Team G.FRO is proud to announce the return of talented F2000 driver Philip Metzger, 17, from Greenwood Village, Colorado, to campaign the entire Pacific F2000 Series in 2007.
Metzger, who will campaign his #29 Team G.FRO/Phoebe Hair Apparent/Sovereign Energy Van Diemen RF06 Zetec, will be returning to the FF2000 ranks in which he completed his rookie campaign a year ago with Team G.FRO while competing in select Pacific F2000 Series events and the entire Cooper Tires USFF2000 Championship. Metzger hopes to build on his experience from last season which was high-lighted by a pole position and second place finish at Infineon Raceway in the Pacific F2000 Series, in addition to a top-five and a pair of sixth place finishes in the Cooper Series.
"I'm thrilled to be back on Team G.FRO for the 2007 F2000 Pacific series, commented Metzger. "We had a great debut last year in the Cooper Series and our goal for this year is to win the championship. The team is very knowledgeable with the F2000 car and with the knowledge and experience I gained last year working with the team I think we will be extremely competitive for this year."
"I'm also looking forward to working with my teammate Jeff Westphal. The team as well as Jeff and I get along extremely well, and I couldn't be happier about the team and driver line up we have this year on Team G.FRO."
A spokesperson for PM Motorsports LLC, who has Metzger under contract stated that when Phil competed last year as a rookie in the Cooper Series, he had intended on making it a two-year commitment to try and win that championship. With the recent and abrupt demise of the series, Metzger felt it prudent to turn his attention to the Pacific F2000 Series.
"My plans are to be in a Star Mazda or Champcar Atlantic for the 2008 season," explains Metzger, "but for this year, I'll work as hard as I can to win the Pacific F2000 Series with Team G.FRO."
Metzger will partner with Team G.FRO teammates Jeff Westphal and recently signed vetern Chuck Hulse in the Pacific F2000 Series. Both Westphal and Hulse are graduates of the Jim Russell Racing School Series, in which Hulse finished 2nd and Westphal 3rd in last season's championship.
In addition to continuing their status in Pacific F2000, new for 2007 will be Team G.FRO's Star Mazda Championship effort, in order to continue and develop young drivers up the open-wheel racing ladder within their team.
