F2000 Series Notes and Mid Ohio Updates
Mid summer, mid season, and an August weekend at Mid Ohio is next up for everyone involved with the inaugural season of the F2000 Championship Series.
Since the April start at VIR, we have visited Summit Point,Watkins Glen, and Lime Rock Park. As car counts have steadily grown with excellent competition throughout the field, one man and team have risen above the rest regardless of anything the challengers have thrown at him.
Matt McDonough and Glenn Phillips GTP Motorsports crew have certainly topped the time sheets, and results sheets, more consistently than any other. Their engineering, combined with Matt's impeccable driving, has delivered the goods on a regular basis resulting in Matt holding a 63 point lead over the most recent race winner Mike Andersen, 387 points to 324 points, with Chris Fahan in contention on 264 points in third.
As we have made numerous competition adjustments virtually every weekend and are now confident that the equivalency between a top National level Pinto motor and a restricted and remapped Zetec is as close as we can get it, we intend to focus on wheel and tire packages for the 2007 and beyond season.
So the F2000 series will set up shop at Mid Ohio on Thursday August 10 with a dedicated F2000 only test session from 6:00-8:00 PM. Fear not, unless weather decides otherwise there is plenty of daylight in Central Ohio at 8:00PM in August.
There will be Registration in the Paddock on Thursday from 3:00PM until 7:00PM. Registration will continue at the track registration building at 7:00AM through 10:30AM Friday.
The event begins Friday morning with a 25 minute practice session at 10:40am followed at 3:05PM by another 25 minute practice session.
On Saturday August 12 there is a 25 minute qualifying session at 10:05AM for that days 20 lap race scheduled for 3:30PM.
Sunday is a duplicate of Saturday with qualifying at 10:05AM and racing at 3:30PM.
The next, and final stop on the 2006 F2000 tour, will be a return to Lime Rock in support of the NASCAR Busch East Series on September 29-30.
