McDonough Set to Get 2006 Campaign Underway
WEST NEWBURY, MASS. (April 11, 2006) - A leading Formula Ford 2000 driver Matthew McDonough begins his 2006 campaign this coming weekend. Competing in the newly created F2000 Championship Series, McDonough will race at the challenging Virginia International Raceway.
Expanding his racing program this coming year, the Massachusetts native will race in both the new F2000 Championship Series and return to the Cooper Formula Ford 2000 championship. Reuniting with New Hampshire based GTP Motorsports, McDonough expects to be challenging for race wins and the championship title in both series.
"I'm very excited about this year," commented McDonough. "We had a fantastic season in 2005 racing in the Cooper Series. This year we plan bringing that same level of performance to the F2000 Championship Series. My goal is to win as many races as possible and hopefully walk away with the big trophy at the end of the year."
Racing for over a decade, McDonough began his time behind the wheel as Semi-Finalist at Elf Racing School in France and the top American in the program. Winning numerous SCCA National events, he moved up to the pro Formula Ford 2000 ranks. Earning his first career podium finish in 2004, McDonough enjoyed a very successful season in 2005. Scoring four podium finishes, McDonough was fourth in the overall standings and runner-up in the Masters Class for drivers over the age of 35. With his performance, he was ranked fourth in eformulacarnews.com's year-end driver rankings.
In addition to racing in the two Formula Ford 2000 championships with support from TASC Technical Services, Stephens Transport and Elan Motorsports, McDonough is currently in contact with several Grand-Am Rolex Series teams about racing a Daytona Prototype.
