LIBERTY MOTORSPORTS F2000 CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES DRIVERS RETURN TO ACTION AT ROAD ATLANTA
Caldwell and Kautz joined by Team Principal Belardi in second event on 2010 series calendar
ROCKFORD, ILL. (May 5, 2010) - Liberty Motorsports' talented group of F2000 Championship Series racers return to action this weekend (May 7-8), with Rounds Three and Four taking place at the high-speed Road Atlanta facility in Georgia. The Illinois-based team, which showed good speed and earned valuable points in the season-opening event in April, will again have Bobby Caldwell and Tim Kautz behind the wheels, and be joined by Team Owner Brian Belardi.
As part of a busy month of May - that features three events via two championships - Liberty Motorsports will travel south to Georgia for the second event on the F2000 Championship Series calendar. The multi-car squad, which is contesting its first full-season of pro competition, enters Rounds Three and Four having already established itself as a potential race winner and championship contender.
Kautz, who is making his Formula Ford 2000 debut this season with the Illinois team, has quickly showcased he has the speed to challenge both class veterans and fellow rookie standouts for top honors. Piloting the No. 36 Braeburn Thermometers/Euroquip Liberty Motorsports entry, the Illinois driver regularly turned times on par with the eventual podium finishers at VIRginia International, en route to earn an eighth place finish in Round Two.
Caldwell, who is running his first full season with Liberty Motorsports - after starting the partnership late in 2009, likewise showed good speed and skill in the first two races of 2010. The No. 80 Liberty Motorsports racer from Indiana earned valuable championship points, finishing ninth in race two of the season-opener.
While Belardi will be making his 2010 pro debut in Rounds Three and Four, he has already enjoyed good success behind the wheel of the No. 41 Liberty Motorsports entry. The Liberty Motorsports Team Principal started his season off fine fashion, finishing on the podium in all three SCCA Club Racing Winter Nationals in Florida.
Given the speed and skill shown by all three Liberty Motorsports racers thus far in 2010, and the fact Belardi, Caldwell and Kautz all like high-speed flowing tracks similar to Road Atlanta, the stage is set for a highly successful outing in Georgia.
"This week Liberty Motorsports will kick off a very busy month of May." said Chuck Lessick, Liberty Motorsports Team manager. "Liberty cars will be on track every weekend this month, combined with some mid-week testing, we'll be working on refining our race set-ups to assist our driver's to be up front at the end."
The Liberty Motorsports trio get their first chance to sample the 2.5-mile Road Atlanta road course on Thursday (May 6), via three 45-minute test session. The official F2000 Championship Series action gets underway on Friday (May 7), with 40-minute practice session, followed by qualifying for Round Three just prior to the lunch break. The green flag for race one of the doubleheader is scheduled to wave at 2:15 p.m. local time. That schedule is repeated on Saturday (May 8), with Round Four slated to get underway at 1:15 p.m. local time
