INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 23, 2000)-- Aaron Justus, of Crestline, Calif., captured his sixth pole of 2000, for the U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision Night Before the Grand Prix at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Piero Rodarte, of Mexico City, Mexico and Marc-Antoine Camirand, of Trois-Rivieres, Que., Can. completed the top-three. Driving the No. 32 Forsythe/Indeck/Torco Van Diemen Ford, Justus grabbed the pole as the last car during single car qualifying. On his first flying lap, Justus set a new qualifying lap record of 20.930 sec., 117.993 mph, breaking the record he set previously in May. The pole is Justus' tenth of his career, which is second on the all- time list. "The car has been just great all year, " said Justus, the Road To Indy Oval Crown Championship leader. "I pulled off after the first lap because I didn't think I could go any faster. The goal tonight is to go out and just do what we've doing all year. I want to win the oval crown championship with a win." Rodarte, driving the 55 TelMex/Sico/Yumuri/Elf Van Diemen Ford, had a great qualifying run capturing a career-best starting position. With three cars to follow him, the young Mexican posted a lap of 21.185 sec., 116.573 mph, to start second in the 50- lap race. "The car was just perfect," said an ecstatic Rodarte. "Depending on the situation at the start I might go for the lead right away. Any podium finish will be a great result for me in my first year in the series." Driving the No. 96 Key Motorsport Van Diemen Ford, Camirand looked good for the pole until a slight mistake, posting a quick time of 21.191 sec., 116.540 mph. "I just missed a lap," said Camirand. "Third actually might be a better starting position then second. I'm going to follow Aaron [Justus] into corner one. I've got nothing to lose so I'll be going for the win." Completing the top-five is Arie Luyendyk Jr, of Holland, who finished a career-best fifth last time at IRP and Canadian rookie, Billy Asaro, of Unionville, Ont., Can.
