Manfeild TRS: Piquet wins red-flagged Race 1
M2 Competition's Pedro Piquet closed in on championship leader Thomas Randle with a victory in Race 1 in the final weekend of the Toyota Racing Series at Manfeild.
The Brazilian got off to a perfect start from the front row, clearing Force India junior and pole-sitter Jehan Daruvala at Turn 1.
Ferrari and Red Bull juniors Marcus Armstrong and Richard Verschoor steadied in third and fourth but it was chaos down the order with a crash involving Brendon Leitch.
The Kiwi rolled over, severely damaging his car in the process and bringing out the red flag with Piquet still leading Daruvala.
Meanwhile, Keyvan Andres and Luis Leeds also made contact, but both rejoined at the restart.
Once the race got going, Piquet slowly built a handy gap to the Indian to claim his third win of the season and narrowed the gap to Randle, who finished fifth, to five points.
Daruvala was a lonely second, continuing his strong form with his fifth consecutive podium, while Armstrong rounded off the top 3.
Dutchman Verschoor had Randle on his tail for the last few laps, but the Red Bull junior just had enough in the end to hold on to fourth in the order.
Behind, Enaam Ahmed was sixth ahead of Taylor Cockerton, a mere 0.291s separating the two over the line.
The top 10 was rounded out by Ferdinand Habsburg, Leeds and Shelby Blackstock.
