Rookie driver ends season with surprising results!
Kelly MacPhaden, who dreamed of racing open wheels, put her dream to task this past year. Without having years of karting to fall back on, she has had an outstanding year as a first year driver in open wheel racing.
Kelly's desire and spirit to race has put her on the podium on numerous occasions this year with the brass to prove it. Kelly has developed faster in her driving abilities then one would expect. She has demonstrated she has a natural talent and is expected to continue with racing and take it to the next level.
The Ajax woman is on the rise and she is prepared to face whatever obstacles maybe ahead in her path to achieve her dream. Already this year, Kelly has experienced her share of misadventures from, a racing accident, to numerous engine failures, to racing in bad weather racing. She has had her share of disappointments, although she feels that she could have achieved better results this year without mechanical setbacks.
Kelly was quite prepared to accept at the beginning of the year that she may not have what it takes to be a competitive race car driver. Normally, it requires years of racing experience and knowledge. Instead, she proved that she has a natural talent and was illustrated it when she attended her first racing event at Mosport. Not having done testing in her newly acquired race car, she learned how to shift gears in the parking lot minutes before qualifying. Kelly achieved a first finish in that race and surprised her crew chief with her lap time results, and continued to show unusual results that weekend.
Kelly still has a lot to learn, and is currently taking steps to become a better driver.
Kelly has begun to take the next step and she is currently in transition to compete in the Formula Ford 1600 Series. Kelly's team is currently in preparation for the new season to come.
