Brazilian Queiroz takes Russell's Triple Crown "Round 2"

Victor Hugo Queiroz of Goias, Brazil won Sunday's USAC Russell Pro Triple Crown Championship race at Sears Point Raceway and heads into the June 22 series finale at Sears Point in a virtual tie with Chris Carmody for the point lead.

Queiroz and his Goias Sport Club Special fashioned a 16.664-second margin of victory over Carmody in the 11-lap race on the 2.52-mile road course. Carmody won the series opener at Irwindale, Calif. in April.

Pole starter Scott Speed, last year's Formula Russell Champion, grabbed the lead at the start and led the first six laps of Sunday's race in pouring rain before spinning into the tires on lap seven. Queiroz then led the rest of the way for the victory.

Rounding out the "top five" in the 11-lap event were Jason Bowles, John Mefford and John Knudsen. Speed was the fastest qualifier during Saturday's session at 1:41.255 to win the pole.
