Caleb Kenney Sweeps Second Formula Russell Weekend
Berkeley, California -- After a strong debut in the SCCA Formula Russell Championship, Caleb Kenney put on another stellar performance in the second weekend at the scenic Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Kenney started off the weekend by unofficially setting a track record during practice on Thursday for the Infineon layout of original turn 7 and 9/9a. He used that as a boost to head into Round 3 with high confidence. On Saturday, Kenney took pole position after the session leader, Nic LeDuc, spun out in qualifying and was moved to the tail end of the field. In the race, Kenney was able to keep the lead on the start and gained a 13+ second lead at the checkered flag. Battling for position all along the way, LeDuc had a great drive from starting off the race in 13th to finish the race in 2nd.
Round 4 would yield the same results, as Kenney, would again take pole position in qualifying, setting the fast lap time late in the session. In the race, he led the field to the green and got a great start, taking 1st position into turn one. Kenney would march out a small lead in the opening laps and maintain it until halfway through the race. Turning up the heat in the closing laps, Kenney would increase the gap to finish five seconds ahead of 2nd place LeDuc.
"I really have to thank XS Coast 2 Coast/XS Energy Drink, the Jim Russell Racing Schools, and Kenney Consulting, LLC for helping me out this season. I'm so glad that I have turned their support this year into results so fast. I really look forward to the rest of the season and hopefully I can turn this into great things later on. I'm already looking forward to making plans for next year," said Kenney, shortly after Sunday's race.
Thanks to the pair of wins, Kenney takes over the overall series points lead and will strive to keep it as the season progresses during Rounds 5 & 6 of the SCCA Formula Russell Championship during April 21st-22nd.
