BRANDS HATCH POLE FOR LEIMER
Jenzer Motorsport's Fabio Leimer claimed his third pole position of the season today, for round seven of International Formula Master in Brands Hatch, England.
The Swiss driver, who has claimed three of the four possible pole positions so far this year, posted a best time of 1:25.384. A heavy downpour moments before the start of the 30-minute session rendered the track wet, with five drivers sharing the top of the timesheets throughout qualifying.
Leimer, Alexander Rossi, Vladimir Arabadzhiev, Erik Janis and Patrick Reiterer all featured at the top, whilst JD Motorsport's Afanasiev eventually posted the second fastest lap in 1:26.128.
ISR's Janis will start tomorrow's race in third place after completing his fastest lap in 1:26.324, ahead of JD Motorsport's Kral whose best time of 1:26.490 places him fourth.
Iris Project's Reiterer posted the fifth quickest lap in 1:27.074 ahead of Brno pole-setter Pål Varhaug who starts tomorrow's race in sixth place (1:27.706) for Jenzer Motorsport.
ISR's Rossi eventually claimed seventh fastest despite dominating the earlier part of the session, posting a best time of 1:27.907, whilst Alessandro Kouzkin's fastest lap of 1:28.335 places him eighth for Cram Competition.
Eurosport's coverage for IFM's race weekend in Brands Hatch will begin tomorrow (Saturday) with race one shown live from 11:15 (GMT) on Eurosport International and Asia Pacific. Sunday's race two will be broadcasted on Eurosport 2, from 16:30 (GMT).
Fabio Leimer, Jenzer Motorsport
"I didn't push too hard in the first half of the session; I didn't want to risk going off, and concentrated on the later part of qualifying. It worked out and I'm very happy to be on pole, especially as my radio wasn't working properly! I wasn't even sure I had the best time until I got out of the car!"
Sergey Afanasiev, JD Motorsport
"This was my first time driving in the wet at Brands Hatch so it was an experience. It feels like a mini-Spa here with the hills and the changing weather; it's great practice! I had the edge in the dry during free practice but Fabio [Leimer] was faster in qualifying. At least we have a very good chance for tomorrow's race."
Erik Janis, ISR
"I was fastest on a couple of occasions but didn't get the perfect lap at the end; I was concentrating on preserving the tyres as the track was drying. I'm still pleased with third. I'd driven on the Indy configuration last year but this is my first time on the full circuit so it's a good result."
