Trident Racing put together an extremely positive team performance at Pau, in the second round of the 2008 International Formula Master. In the final race of the weekend, Kasper Andersen and Alejandro Nunez captured two podium finishes by ending in 2nd and 3rd place. The race was marred by two Safety-Car periods, and by an anticipated ending at lap 23, due to a dangerously intense rainfall. Kasper had a very linear though extremely fast pace, following polesitter Puglisi all the way to the end. The Italian, who ended up spinning in the closing stages, was awarded the win after the stewards called the race off and froze the running order at the previous lap. In a championship perspective, the runner-up spot allowed the Dane to take third place in standings, just two points off the leader. Nunez was extremely good too, clinching third with an outstanding move on Arturo Llobell, while Harald Schlegelmilch got back from 23rd to 11th after being caught in a first-lap wreck while running in the middle of the pack.
Race 2 Results
Kasper Andersen (#32) - 2nd
Alejandro Nunez (#33) - 3rd
Harald Schlegelmilch (#31) - 11th
"I'm delighted for the great overall result we took this weekend. I'm two points off the series' lead now, and at this point I expect us to fight both in the drivers' and in the teams' standings. I think we'll be improving as a team, because we're a young team, and we don't stop progressing. Today it was really tough, and I basically didn't have a true chance to move on the leader, because the places where I was faster didn't feature a lot of passing opportunities. I was looking forward to rain, since I really like to run on wet, but I understand that the race had to be stopped for safety reasons".
"I'm quite satisfied with how my weekend went on, and with the great job made by the team. Today's race turned out to be very difficult, and I'm glad to have managed to gain a position with a tight move at turn 1. I really wanted a podium spot, and I finally got it; I'm also glad for the steps forward we make each time we hit the track, as I keep increasing my feeling with the car. I'm looking forward to a strong finish at Brno".
"I can't really say to have had a good weekend here at Pau. Of course, today's race was conditioned by the starting spot, but I fought to get some positions back and, in the end, I accomplished the task. I even had a small contact with the barriers, but I was able to continue, and clock the second fastest lap of the day. I had another strong confirmation of how high our potential is, and just a couple of unfortunate episodes prevented me from taking some well-deserved championship points".
