The second last race of the Italian Formula 3 Championship took place this weekend on Monza's fast track. Giacomo Piccini competed in this race with the Passoli Racing Team after participating in the first half of the season with Imola Racing and competed in one race with the WRC Team.
Regardless of constantly jumping from one team to another, Giacomo never lost his concentration: his numerous wins in the top positions proves this. Monza's fifth place has guaranteed very important points for Giacomo. He is in 5th place in the general classification with just one race left go!
"This was overall a good weekend. I wasn't able to participate in the free practice session very much and this may have caused a few problems for me to get a good feeling with the car and the team. Moreover during the first qualifying session, I made a costly mistake. I expected too much from the car and the tires that hadn't reached the right temperature and thus went off track at the Lesmo curve. I was nevertheless able to set the ninth best time but I missed the whole entire first qualifying session. During the race, I started off well.
"The start was full of excitement with Mazzoleni and Gattuso's accident that caused a little bit of confusion. I was able to avoid them and continue the race. I was then able to conquer the fourth place by overtaking Galeffi. This however didn't last long because I started having problems with the set up of the car. It was hard for me to stay on track in these conditions and I wasn't able to stop Cressoni from overtaking me. I unfortunately fell back into the fifth place."
