Giacomo Piccini sums up three points on the Magione track.

It was a difficult weekend for Giacomo Piccini who raced a few kilometres away from his native town Sansepolcro, on the Magione track. For the third race of the Formula 3 Italian Championship, Giacomo managed to sum up three points and finished in eighth place.

Piccini had two qualifying sessions on Saturday. But only managed to find the right technical set up in the afternoon when the track was slower. Although he improved his time considerably compared to the morning session, Giacomo wasn't able to get beyond the seventh place on the starting grid.

It was an exciting start. At the second curve , Giacomo found himself caught in between Christian Montanari and Stefano Gattuso. The inevitable contact that followed fortold what the future held for the three drivers in this race. Giacomo was able to continue but had to fight hard throughout the race with a set-up problem.

Giacomo Piccini:

"Looking back on how things went, I can't be anything other than satisfied about summing up three points. Nonetheless, my objective was to be higher up on the classification. I was amongst the fastest during the second qualifying session on Saturday. But at that point, the track seemed a lot slower than in the morning.

"As a result, I was seventh on the starting grid. The start of the race jeopardized my race. During my first lap, at the curve by the old boxes, I found myself trapped between Gattuso and Montanari.

"The collision that was unavoidable, jeopardized both my race and that of the others. Throughout the whole race, I had to compete with an unstable car. For this reason, these three points shouldn't be thrown away!"
