Positive week-end at Silverstone.
Silverstone race week-end saw Julien inviting himself regularly in top of the time charts, and entering his first Top 10 of the season.
Frenchman Gerbi and his Brazilian friend Thiago Calvet sent out a heart warming message of support to the families of the missing Air France flight - both cars and helmets carried the message "AF447 Rio - Paris. Supporting the families.".
On the track, Gerbi confirmed his reputation under the rain, regularly classifying himself in top of the time charts. But after having missed his qualifying, Julien was starting Race 1 with mixed objectives. From 12th on the grid, the French driver did finish in the same position.
Julien got a decent start for Race 2, but went slightly off track in the first corner, falling down in 14th position. Starting to catch the field, the driver from Nice distinguised himself by numerous overtaking on British aces Rees and Foster, before a final battle with Babbra. Fighting for 7th place, Gerbi managed to pass Babbra in the last lap by the outside of Copse corner, before being overtaken by the British driver on the finish line. Julien eventually finished 8th after a very disputed race.
Starting from 14th on Race 3, Julien took advantage of race facts in order to bring his Team Biotech International car in a final 9th position.
Julien Gerbi :
"It has been a positive week-end. I knew Brands Hatch was an incident, and I was impatient to race at Silverstone in order to show my real value. We had a great pace during the practices but eventually mistaked on our set up for qualifying. We tried something that didn't work out, and we will take the experience out of it in the future. Anyway, I took a lot of pleasure fighting in the good group of drivers. I had managed to pass Babbra by the outside in Copse corner, but he used his last boost in the straight to overtake me back. It was a tremendous race ending, and I hope the spectators enjoyed our battle as much as I did ! We are on the good way, and Snetterton should confirm our thoughts. I can't wait to be there."
Formula Palmer Audi next rounds will take place at Snetterton the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July.
