With less than eight weeks remaining until the start of the new season, Formula Palmer Audi ace Gideon Cresswell is unlikely to make the grid for round one of the championship due to sponsorship troubles.

A multiple race winner in Formula Palmer Audi, Cresswell has often been described as the most committed and entertaining driver in the series. Series principal, Jonathan Palmer recently labelled him a favourite for overall honours this year.

After taking the opening round of the championship at Brands Hatch last May, Cresswell clinched two further victories and third place in the championship. On the back of his Formula Palmer Audi form, the Maidstone-based driver has been offered seats with several teams in the Spanish Formula Three and UK Formula Renault championships.

“It’s gratifying to know that my name is being considered by the top teams at this level but at the same time I’m obviously disappointed with the funding situation,” Cresswell said.“ I learnt a lot last season and having experienced the circuits and gotten to know the car, I’d love to return to Formula Palmer Audi for a shot at the title.

“ I’ve had lots of messages wishing me well for the new season. At the moment I’m hoping that I’ll be able to repay that faith by lining up for the start of round one in two months time.“
