Faulkner Takes the Title
Robbie Kerr won the second race of the day at Brands Hatch, just ahead of Justin Keen with Damien Faulkner in third place. Faulkner's second podium of the weekend was enough to take the 2000 EFPA title and win a drive in next years International F3000 series.
Kerr led off the line, but there was a 10 second penalty added to his race time for appearing to jump the start. Justin Keen shot through from 4th to get behind Kerr into the first corner, challenging the Sanderson sponsored driver for the lead. Keen decided to follow Kerr closely, aware that he was holding first position because of the penalty, but he was still looking for a way around the No 79 car. Faulkner was behind these two drivers watching and waiting to see if an opportunity to take the lead would present itself. He then started to drop back, and came under pressure from Jesper Carlsen towards the end of the race. Two laps from the end Tim Mullen had an accident at Dingle Dell, which left debris on the track, and the chequered flag was shown two laps early. Mullen was shaken but otherwise unhurt.
After appeal, Robbie Kerr's penalty was overturned and his win was reinstated. Third was still enough to give Faulkner the title and the weekend was round off with Bruce Jouanny wrapping up the EFPA Junior Championship after two excellent drives, taking first in class both times.
