Malaysia's Alex Yoong had a productive two day Formula Nippon's official team tests held at the FUJI circuit near Tokyo. He finished 8th fastest with a time of 1m 17.328s dispite missing the run in his last new set of tyres towards the end of the fourth and final session. He was second for the last one hour till the final 10 minutes when all the teams made their final assault with new tyres.

"These two days were typical sessions where the team and I had to go through many minute adjustments and get them right, before we could get the car to give us a decent time." said Alex.

"We were 2 seconds off the pace on day 1. For some reasons my car was handling like a pig with the same settings I had when we used the softer compound Bridgestones. We also tested a new brake fluid on day 1. In the end we managed to get the car right with near perfect balance. If we had done the final run, we could have kept our second spot and that will be good for our race chances in FUJI next month."

"We should be competitive for round 4 at FUJI in early June but next is round 3 in Mine next week where the team was competitive during the tests last month and we are going for a good result there."

S. Motoyama was quickest at FUJI with 1m 16.656s followed by current championship leader N. Hattori at 1m 16.982s and J. Wakisaka at 1m 16.997s.

The other Asian drivers Andre Couto and Narain Karthikeyan finished in 15th and 16th with the times of 1m 17.787s and 1m 17.843s respectively.

Alex's team mate Y. Igarashi had faced problems with car set-up and only managed 1m 19.180s for 21st position.

Alex Yoong is sponsored by TV3 Malaysia, Malaysian Airlines, TAG Heuer, Brylcreem, NeuroWeb Malaysia, SiteForum and Konica Japan. His participation in Formula Nippon is supported by the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports and Japan Race Promotion. The LeMans Team is sponsored by Domani, Sunoco and SuperStar.
