Tiago Monteiro's hat trick in Le Vigent
Portuguese driver's second win this season
Promising Portuguese driver, Tiago Monteiro, was unstoppable this weekend at the French circuit of Le Vigent. Besides his undefeatable win, Monteiro also attained the Pole Position and the fastest lap, adding the maximum score possible and simultaneously approaching the French Formula 3 Championship leader, Ryo Fukuda.
"This weekend couldn't have run better, but even though, it was not an easy win due to intense heat, which forced a controlled rhythm so we could spare the tires", explained Tiago Monteiro.
During the qualification, Monteiro had shown he was there to take the win when he attained the best time of 1m 33'193s: "The qualification session ran quite well, but the starting grid area was very dirty and I wasn't able to perform a good start. Derlot started out better than I did but I was still able to glue myself to him and get away from the rest of the pack. I started pressuring Derlot in case he made a mistake, which happened during the 8th lap. He was forcing his tires too much, while I was on a good rhythm and sparing mine. After Derlot spun at 12 laps to the end of the race I was alone at the lead and I forced my rhythm for 5 more laps attaining a 7.09s advantage. The Team asked me to slow down so I lifted my foot from the gas pedal until the end of the race".
This was Monteiro's second win this season and his 7th in his Formula 3 career, catching up with current Championship leader, Japanese driver, Ryo Fukuda.
