Formula 4000 Confirm P.R. China Plans

The Formula 4000 Association today confirmed its plans for the inaugural Formula 4000 Asian Series. The series will take place in the early part of 2005 and will be highlighted by two rounds in Shanghai scheduled to take place in April.

Formula 4000 President Mr. Chris Hocking finalised the agreement with the Shanghai Promoter appointed by Mr. Benny Leung, Marketing Director of Four Seas Network Pty Limited at the Shanghai International Circuit's city office building in front of a packed media assembly last week. All present at the assembly welcomed the five year agreement and look forward to opportunity of having the fastest racing machines in Australia take to the track in the People's Republic of China.

The official dates have been confirmed and will be released on August 15, 2004. The Shanghai International Circuit welcomes Formula 4000's plans to expand into China and advise the Promoter on the optimal time of the year in terms of weather and expected spectator attendance.

It is anticipated that twenty-four state-of-the-art new generation Formula 4000 machines will venture to China to compete on the full Grand Prix circuit. Formula 4000 is one of few categories around the world who will compete on the 5.45 km Shanghai International Circuit layout following the inaugural Formula One event this September.

Mr. Hocking said, "I am extremely excited by the prospect that China and for that matter Asia has offered Formula 4000. To have the opportunity to compete at a facility such as the Shanghai International Circuit is fantastic for those associated with our series and will surely be a leading highlight in many of their careers."

"This agreement has opened Asia to the world that is F4000 racing."

"We look forward to confirming several arrangements in both Asia and Australia in the coming weeks. These arrangements will see events scheduled through out Asia complementing the Shanghai events."

Mr. Hocking was supported by Mr. Benny Leung the Marketing Director of the Four Seas Network, the company instrumental in introducing Formula 4000 to China. Mr. Leung said the decision by Formula 4000 to expand to China will have enormous potential.

"This is a momentous occasion which signals the beginning of an era for Formula 4000."

"Formula 4000 has already caught the eye of many main stream motor sport fans in China, headlining in many media forms throughout the PRC in anticipation for today's event. We hope to utilise this media exposure and create one of the largest sporting events in China."

"I can hardly wait to see a Formula 4000 take to the track here at the Shanghai International Circuit."

Current Hocking Motorsport driver Rob Nguyen was also in attendance for the signing.

"Formula 4000 is one of the closest forms of motor sport to Formula 1. It's the ultimate test of a drivers' talent."

"The cars and environment that is Formula 4000 together with the expansion of the series provides the necessary technical backing I need to further develop my skills.

"I have seen many great race tracks around the world but very few are of the calibre of the Shanghai International Circuit. I look forward to competing at this awesome facility next year in Formula 4000," said Nguyen.
