Montreal, Canada, June 27, 2004 -- Canadian Formula 3 driver Bruno Spengler of St. Hippolite, Quebec drove another brilliant race today in Round 10 of the hotly contested Euro Formula 3 Series in Norisring, Germany.
Spengler, the new ambassador of the Casino of Montreal and driver of the #3 Mercedes Benz-powered Dallara, started the race in 8th place, gained two positions and crossed the line 6th, scoring three championship points.
"I gained two places immediately after the start but someone tried to passed the entire field in the first corner, causing some chaos," said Spengler. "I lost one place when avoiding a contact with another car. Shortly after, my car suffered from a touch of under steer. I could not attack the guys running in front of me but those behind were never in a position to pass me. In the closing laps of the race, Nico Rosberg crashed, moving me up one spot." Spengler arrived 6th, just 9.541 seconds behind the race winner.
Spengler, the 2002 North American Formula Renault series' champion, is happy with his performance, having finished 8th yesterday and 6th today. "It is really not bad at all. We were quite competitive here this weekend. My goal was to finish both races and to score some points despite the ferocious action out there. Now I can say: mission accomplished!"
Twenty-six drivers competed in today's race. Bruno Spengler now lies in 12th place in the standings with 11 points.
The next two rounds will be held next weekend in Magny-Cours as part of the Grand Prix of France Formula 1 event.
