2nd Round Mugello 16/04/00
2 points to Montanari,
Pavicevic retired

A collision with Draco's driver Nienkotter forces Pavicevic to retire; after a good start Montanari ends up 5th.

Massimo Lombardi ( Montanari's race engineer ): " We could have easily ended 4th since Giovanni was gaining half a second each lap. We are happy with the performance and the 2 points. The car set up was very good. Montanari's potential is good and today he showed it."

Giovanni Montanari: On starting I had problems with 3rd and 4th gears, then at the green light, I sprinted and soon gained one position. I took advantage of Nienkotter's and Pavicevic's collision after the Casanova-Savelli. I pushed as much as I could and I found myself 1 second from Lancieri. If I had at least a few more laps to run, I think I would have been able to reach him".

Andrej Pavicevic: "My start was not very good and I was lucky I did not loose positions, but I had a very good run to the 1st corner where I passed cars under brakes and on the outside of Casanova-Savelli ( turn 1 ) cleanly and fairly. By the end of lap one I was up to fifth position. Then Nienkotter again tried another impossible move when he tried to pass me around the outside of turn 1 under proper race conditions. He squeezed me giving me no room whatsoever. He interlocked wheels with me and the inevitable happened, wheels touched he spun himself off and also caused damage to my car. With damage to both left side suspensions, broken sidepod, flat front left tyre and damaged wing, I brought the car back to the pits, where the team repaired what they could so that I wouldn't loose a lap before sending me out. Unfortunately the car was very strange and dangerous when I went back out so I returned to the pits to retire from the race."
