Oisin Bergin endured a difficult race on July 30th last at Mondello Park in the 2000 National Formula Vee Championship. The young Louisburgh driver was lying in fifth place after qualifying fourth and having a tremendous battle with triple British Champion Ray Moore, Paul Heavy and David Hall. Bergin, last seasons Formula Vee Novice Vice-Champion had traded places with Hall on the previous lap and was once again attacking him when they both tangled, which ended-up with Oisin spinning into the gravel. However, he was able to rejoin albeit down in 13th place and with one lap left that was where he remained. "This was a disappointing weekend for me, said Oisin, the car felt quite good and I was comfortable behind David Hall but these things happen in racing".

This was the third successive weekend that Oisin had been involved in some racing incident. In Cadwell Park, the Mayo & District Motorsport Clubman was setting testing pace but was struck with engine problems during qualifying but still managed to qualify fifth. However, in the race the Westport Leisure Club backed driver was punted off the track and into retirement by another competitor. Three weeks later in Mondello Park, Oisin qualified second alongside Wicklow's Enda O'Connor and was running in that position early in the race. However he was soon forced to retire with another engine problem.

The next race is at Kirkistown in Northern Ireland this weekend. This track has been relatively lucky for Oisin in the past and thus far he has had a third and fifth place qualifying as well as a fourth place result. "This is the fastest of the all the circuits we visit, said Oisin, I usually go well there and I am looking forward to getting a decent result".

Oisin Bergin would like to thank his following sponsors: Electrical & Pump Services, Ballyhaunis; Peter Duffy Tool Hire, Westport; C.T. Electric, Castlebar and Galway; Berry Print Group, Westport; Lawless Glass, Castlebar; Castlecourt Hotel, Westport and Engine Re-manufacturing, Castlebar.
