D'Agostino and Team JLR back testing at Donington and Silverstone in tricky conditions
American Joe D'Agostino completed more pre-season tests this past week with Team JLR, in preparation for the 2004 British Formula Ford Championship.
Thursday (March 18th) D'Agostino and Team JLR were back at it again for a half-day of testing at Donington Park. Aside from celebrating his 19th birthday D'Agostino was getting some more all important seat-time but found conditions far from ideal as high winds and light rains plagued the test. "The conditions out there today were very difficult as it never rained hard enough for wet tires, but it was damp enough to make the slicks quite a handful. There were a lot of red flags and with testing being only a half-day we ending up getting very few laps. However, it was good for me to get a feel for the car and tires in those kinds of conditions."
Team JLR then headed to Silverstone to run the National circuit on Friday (March 19th), but conditions would not be any better as gale-force winds and driving rains would mean a full wet setup for the morning test sessions. However, after lunch the sun came out and for the final test session the track was completely dry.
"The first session was difficult having to learn the track and get a feel for the car in the wet all at the same time. A big help was the excellent wet setup Team JLR have for the cars allowing me to make good progress, also my more experienced team-mate Dan Clarke helped me a bit as at one point we were dicing back and forth having a bit of friendly competition and were able to learn from each other. I ended up being the quickest in the wet out of my team (1. D'Agostino-1:11.7, 2. Clarke-1:12.2, 3. Kimball-1:12.8). For the final session I would end up 3rd quickest (1. Clarke-1:01.0, 2. Kimball-1:01.1, 3. D'Agostino-1:01.2). I was really happy with how testing went today as I had not been to Silverstone before and was on pace with my team-mates who all have been around the track previously. I am really feeling at home with the team and cannot wait for the first race."
D'Agostino will be testing at Donington Park next week on Tuesday the 23rd of March and then will be heading to Brands Hatch on the 27th of March for the first Official UKFFC Test.
D'Agostino would like to thank Team JLR and all of his sponsors: Arai Helmets, Skip Barber Racing School, Sparco, The Mayes Group, and all of his personal sponsors.
