(Toronto -- June 14, 2002) The ChampCar F6000 Racing Series heads to Mosport International Raceway this weekend for the first event of the Series' inaugural season.
The ChampCar F6000 Racing Series is an open-wheel series created in the fall of 2001. The series was initiated after the Indy Lights Series folded at the end of the 2001 season. ChampCar F6000 will utilize the '97 Lola chassis as previously used in the Indy Lights Series and the '94 Lola as used in Mexico by La Formula de las Americas.
An open test session on Friday will be used to homologate the two different chassis and engine combinations. The first official practice session is Saturday morning from 9:00am -- 10:00am. Qualifiying will take place on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 -- 3:00. Sunday will see two races: the first at 9:30 am and the second at 4:00 pm.
Series organizers expect a small but diverse field for the first event. The field will consist of drivers from many countries in both North and South America. Cesar Jimenez and Antonio Coello both from Monterrey, Mexico and Carlos Perea from Mexico City will be competing this weekend. All three drivers are veterans of the Mexican series. Canadian Paul Rozalowsky is expected to compete. Rozalowsky was the ChampCar Lights Points Champion in 1999. A few more late arrivals are expected.
The fields are expected to grow at subsequent events. Comprent Motor Sports will be bringing two cars to the second event. Also joining at the same event will be one car from Algie Racing. A & B Racing will be bringing at least two cars to the third event at Lowes Motor Speedway on September 7-8. In addition, there are several more drivers from Canada, the United Sates, Mexico and various countries in South America that will be joining the series for coming events.
The next stop for ChampCar F6000 is June 29-30 at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia. The event is part of the Hyperfest Weekend.
