The Brazilian leads the championship with an advantage of 26 points ahead of Franck Montagny and Bas Leinders.
Barcelona, 30 September 2002 ? Justin Wilson and Ricardo Zonta reached pole position in the qualifying day in Circuit de Catalunya (Barcelona) that hosts the sixth meeting of the Telefónica World Series by Nissan. The Brazilian will start ahead of the main challengers to his leadership, Franck Montagny and Bas Leinders, both 26 points behind Zonta. Thousands of spectators will crowd the Circuit de Catalunya. Today Adrian Vallés, who also will drive tomorrow in Formula Nissan 2000, has won the first race of the Spanish Championship Formula Junior 1600.
Justin Wilson (Racing Engineering) set the pace in qualifying ahead of the Macao driver Andre Couto (Vergani Racing) and Antonio García (Adrián Campos Motorsport), very confident after his podium in the last race hold in France. The British, the F3000 champion in 2001, is aiming for recover the podium way that he lost in Magny-Cours. The championship leader Ricardo Zonta (Gabord Competición) conformed to fourth place 0,186 behind Wilson because of the heavy traffic when he wanted to make his best lap and will start from the second row. The challengers, both in close proximity to Zonta at the head of the table, Franck Montagny (Racing Engineering) and Bas Leinders (KTR) will start from the third and fourth row: the French ended the 5th and the Belgium driver, the 7th. The yellow flag because of an incident of Roberto González affected both.
The Brazilian Rodrigo Sperafico (Repsol Meycom), who makes its debut in Barcelona instead of Ángel Burgueño, reached the 9th best time of the session. Narain Karthikeyan, 11th 0,633 ahead of Wilson, suffers the effect of an amigdalitis treatment.
Without the problems that faced in the first qualifying, Ricardo Zonta set a searing pace and the best lap in the whole day with an impressive 1:31.213. Montagny will start beside him in the first row, and Leinders and Jean Christophe Ranvier will occupy the second row. Wilson' chances to achieve the pole again had been spoilt by a tyre' puncture and he will start from the third row. Karthikeyan didn't appear in the track.
Borja García and Adrián Vallés reach the pole in Formula Nissan 2000 Borja García (Venturini Racing) and Adrián Vallés (Escuela Lois Circuit) secured the pole position in the two qualifying sessions of the Formula Nissan 2000. Matteo Bobbi (Vergani Racing) ended in 2nd position in both sessions and José M. Pérez-Aicart, Vallés team mate, will start both races from the 3rd place. The leadership Santiago Porteiro (Repsol Meycom) ended the qualifier in the 6th place so he will start from the third row.
Gelete Nieto and Mathias Lauda, both in Epsilon by Graff, didn't have a good day: the Spanish driver finished the last one and Lauda ended 10th and 11th.

Tomorrow, the first World Series race will take place at 11:45 (17 laps) and the second race will be at 14:45 (24 laps with a compulsory pit stop).
