Makela Takes Top Spot at Snetterton
Valle Makela took pole position for the latest round of the UK Formula Ford Championship at Snetterton earlier today (June 5). The current series leader was pushed hard though, taking the top spot by just 77-thousandths of a second from fellow Scandinavian Sebastian Hohenthal.
Hohenthal finally showed his speed mid-way through the session, knocking Stuart Gough down to third. Japanese racer Yuya Sakamoto put in a late flying lap to take third place away from him though, with a time just 94-thousandths of a second slower than Makela's.
"We weren't very quick when we first went out and couldn't do the times at the end of the session either because the track and tyres were hot," said Makela. "It can be better not to be on pole here because the drivers behind can get a tow very easily and it is difficult to get away," he added.
American Joe D'Agostino beat his fellow countryman Charlie Kimball for fifth position with Indian racer Suk Sandher taking seventh place. Charlie Donnelley, winner at Knockhill last time out, could only manage tenth place.
