D'Agostino and Kimball take American 1-2 at Silverstone
American racer Joe D'Agostino took his first race win of the season in the UK Formula Ford Championship at Silverstone this afternoon. Fellow countryman, Charlie Kimball made it an American one-two around the 3.194 miles Grand Prix venue.
A red flag was needed at the first start after D'Agostino and series leader Valle Makela touched, spinning the Finn into the pit wall and out of the race. The re-start allowed D'Agostino to get a great start and pull out a good lead over Kimball. Daniel Clarke made a great start to move into third place but dropped down the order a lap later after picking up a mis-fire.
A controlled race from the Scholarship Cup driver meant that he clinched his first race victory by almost five seconds from Kimball.
"Everyone else was a bit more cautious than me at the re-start and it gave me the chance to pull out a gap on the first lap," said D'Agostino. "After that, I just kept my head down and made sure I stayed at that ace. The tyres were great and the car felt fantastic. The team did a great job this weekend."
Team-mate Kimball was happy to have made it an all-American one-two.
"I'm really happy with this result. I had the edge on Joe at Oulton and he had the edge on me here. We've both worked hard to get up to speed and take to the British way of racing and this proves that we have the pace. I hope everyone is taking notice, here and back home in the US," said Kimball.
Sebastian Hohenthal took third place from Nexa Racing team-mate Suk Sandher on lap seven. The Indian driver lost fourth place on the final lap as Charlie Donnelly managed to sneak past and take the place. Yuya Sakamoto followed the pair across the line in sixth place.
