Makela takes pole for Silverstone GP race
Finland's Valle Makela took pole position for the first of two UK Formula Ford Championship races on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this afternoon. The current series leader beat Americans Joe D'Agostino and previous round winner Charlie Kimball.
Kimball took provisional pole, with D'Agostino making it an all American front row initially. However, Makela moved to the top of the timesheets within a handful of laps and was never put under any pressure to put in a quicker time.
Julian Yap will line up in fourth place with Japanese racer Yuya Sakamoto just behind him in fifth. Swedish racer Sebastian Hohenthal managed to get into the top six, beating Nexa Racing team-mate Suk Sandher for the place.
Daniel Clarke struggled to match his American Team JLR team-mates on the Silverstone long circuit. He eventually managed to set a time that put him ninth on the grid, just ahead of Mygale driver Charlie Donnelly. Neil Doran rounded out the top ten.
The grid for race two is taken from the second fastest lap times during the qualifying session. Valle Makela put in a time good enough to seal his second pole position of the weekend, with D'Agostino once again taking the second front row spot.
Kimball will line up behind them, but Sebastian Hohenthal will start from the second row on Sunday afternoon. Indian driver Suk Sandher and Charlie Donnelly also improved their positions, to lock out the third row.
