Jamun works driver Nathan Freke has his first outing in the Newnet isp backed, Jamun racing Mygale SJ06 Formula Ford Race Car with the new Duratec engine, last week at Brands Hatch. The car had previously been tested and set up by the 2005 Champion who set the benchmark for Nathan's testing. The day started wet and Nathan had his first taste of racing single seater car on wet tyres, the first 2 sessions were marred by a leaking brake union which was quickly fixed by the team as the track started to dry. During the day several changes were made to the car as Nathan got to grips with the new vehicle and changed the setup to suit his driving style rather than the previous tester. Mid afternoon and the track was virtually dry and new tyres were put onto the car to replace to rather worn tyres Nathan had been using. The result was that Nathan matched the more experienced champion's lap times and the team and driver ended the day very satisfied with the progress. Nathan will be carrying out more tests in the coming weeks as the first round approaches at Easter.
Nathan has also been competing in karts over the last 2 weeks with mixed results due to mechanical problems, but has been using the races to sharpen his racing skills in preparation for the car racing season.
Nathan was recently invited to carry out corporate race instructing duties for Marangoni Tyres in Italy, but had to turn the offer down as it clashed with the Formula Ford testing program in late Feb, it is hoped that he will be able to take up the offer later in the year.
