Mockett's rocket flies at Oulton Park taking double race wins
Cheshire, England -- American Joe D'Agostino put in a brilliant performance this past weekend in the 3 rd & 4th rounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship as the talented youngster drove his Mockett.com-Team JLR Van Diemen to victory in both of the weekends races.
After edging out championship rival Charlie Donnelly for pole-position in the first race and only just being pipped for pole-position in the second race D'Agostino was determined to get his championship hopes back on track after a rare error in the second race at Donington left him down the order in the points.
Race 1 saw a great battle for the lead and extremely close racing, something almost expected in Formula Ford, as the two championship rivals ran wheel to wheel but after solid defending and a smart drive D'Agostino went on to claim victory by just 0.630 of a second.
Onto Race 2 and with the starting roles reversed this time things were to be interesting. As the start lights went out D'Agostino rocketed off the line taking the lead from Donnelly around the outside into the first corner, however Donnelly remained in hot pursuit for the first few laps until pressure from behind forced him to defend his position. D'Agostino then began to reel off a series of laps opening up the gap to second as the American nearly netted another lap record in the process. By the end of the race D'Agostino's margin of victory was just over 3 seconds, making it 3 wins out of 4 races with 2 fastest race laps and 1 lap record so far this season.
D'Agostino commented, "What a fantastic weekend and I'm so pleased to get my championship back on track. Team JLR gave me a brilliant car as always so it was down to me to do the business. I have to thank all of the Team for what was a fun weekend I will remember for a long time, not to mention it was sunny and warm for once!"
Round 3 -- 1. D'Agostino 20:53.896; 2. Donnelly +0.630; 3. Sunderland +13.552; FL -- Sunderland 1:43.306
Round 4 -- 1. D'Agostino 20:49.936; 2. Donnelly +3.477; 3. Sunderland +4.866; FL -- D'Agostino 1:43.377
The 5th and 6th Rounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship will be held at the Croft circuit on the 7 th-8th of May.
D'Agostino wishes to thank Team JLR and all of his supporters: Arai Helmets, Doug Mockett & Co., Sutton Images, and Sparco USA.
