D'Agostino scores two solid finishes in first UKFFC Championship
American Joe D'Agostino and Team JLR scored two top-five results in this year's first round of the UK Formula Ford Championship. D'Agostino finished up his first weekend racing the UK Formula Ford Championship with two fifth-place finishes overall as well as a scholarship class win.
D'Agostino struggled during qualifying session and would have to start from 10th and 9th position. In the first race D'Agostino would patiently work his way up and would end up battling with Championship favourite Valle Makela for 4th position, but in the end D'Agostino would have to settle for 5th place (1.Donnelly 25:51.265; 2.Hohenthal +0.482; 3.Clarke +7.891; 4.Makela +11.025; 5.D'Agostino +11.231).
For the second race conditions would become very uncertain before the race as rain came pouring down which was then followed by immediate sunshine. These conditions prompted race officials to declare the race a wet race. After a strong start D'Agostino would be pushed off twice in the opening laps. After falling to the very back of the field D'Agostino clawed his way back to make a late challenge for 4th position but would again have to settle for 5th place (1.Makela 20:03.023; 2.Yap +7.804; 3.Clarke +11.042; 4.Sandher +20.581; 5.D'Agostino +21.379).
"I am quite pleased with my results this weekend because after qualifying where I did I knew it would be two very difficult races for me to finish well. To come away with two top-five finishes and 3rd in the championship, especially after wondering if I was even going to finish the last race after being sent-off twice, is great and puts me in a good position to challenge for the outright championship and the Formula One test. I am looking forward to our next race at Croft and will be working hard during testing at getting the most out of new tires to better my qualifying."
D'Agostino leaves the weekend 3rd position in the Championship overall and leads the Scholarship class. The next round of the UK Formula Ford Championship will be 1st-2nd May held at Croft.
