AG confident heading to Queensland
11 July, 2003 - Since graduating from the Ford KartStars Series into the Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship this year Adam Graham has been continually climbing the steep learning curve.
After almost an 8 week break between races for the 18-year-old he is now chaffing at the bit to get back behind the wheel of his Super Cheap Auto Spectrum in race trim in next weekend's fifth round at Queensland Raceway.
Graham and the Borland team took the opportunity with the large break between Championship rounds to undergo some intensive testing at their local Winton and Phillip Island circuits.
Such was the improvement of Graham over this period that he has better his personal best lap times by over a second, such was the improvement in his times at Phillip Island was that they would have put him just outside the top 10 on the Championship grid.
"The testing has given me a great opportunity to push harder in the car and get to know my limits and the car better. I have now had about 10 days in the car since moving up from karts and really feel comfortable in it," comments Graham
While Graham has never raced at Queensland Raceway before he believes that he should adapt quickly to the circuit and completed a handful of laps at the venue a couple of weeks back.
"It is nowhere near as technical as the tracks we have been to already. Most of the corners are similar which will make mid corner speed ever so important," says Graham.
"I'm confident that I can adapt quickly to the circuit and record my best finish of the Championship so far, hopefully walk away with a Championship point."
Prior to the weekend's event Graham will joined by KartStars driver, Jason Varley as a part of the Super Cheap Auto supported "Young Guns" to visit the Royal Childrens Hospital in Brisbane to bring some joy to ill children.
"I'm really looking forward to bringing a smile to the kid's faces," Graham commented.
The pair will also be joined by U-drive's Formula Ford driver Brett Francis for the visit.
Graham will complete three practice sessions on Friday July 18 followed by two qualifying sessions on Saturday morning at 9:30am and 11:30am. The Round 5 Championship races will be held on Sunday at 11:00am and 12:50pm.
Queensland Raceway is located 55km South-west of Brisbane. 1km off Cunningham Highway (Highway 15) on Champions Way, Willowbank.
