CRANDON POISED FOR BIGGEST OFF-ROAD RACING WEEKEND
CRANDON, WISC. -- When sponsors and schedule-makers for the 2008 Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) finalized Crandon International Off-Road Raceway as the site of the season ending finals this coming Labor Day weekend, the die was cast for the biggest weekend in the history of the sport.
There is so much at stake at the upcoming BorgWarner World Championship Off-Road Races0x00ae August 29-31, track organizers have posted a huge $175,000 racer payback.
The weekend not only features the final two rounds of WSORR racing with championships at stake in 11 classes, but also two big money Cup races, two sets of qualifications, World Championship title racing, a downtown Crandon World Championship Labor Day parade, concerts, fireworks and more.
"We are already working at maximum capacity and we don't have a single racer, a single fan on the grounds yet," said Cliff Flannery, track president. "For the first time in our history we have had to open a third auxiliary campground for fans, our racer pits are sold-out and our VIP skyboxes were sold out long ago," he said.
"Anytime you run the World Series season finals, the BorgWarner Shootout, the Forest County Potawatomi 'Decision at Sundown' PRO Light Pickup Cup race, and run Saturday races for World Championship titles all on one weekend you have all the ingredients for the biggest off-road spectacle in history," he said.
Already known nationwide as the "Big House" of off-road racing, the "Super Bowl" of off-road racing, the "Indy 500" of off-road racing, Crandon Raceway will deliver high energy off-road thrills and spills and a high pressure environment on racers.
"This is the big 'mother' of them all," said Steve Federico (Wilmette, Ill.), a PRO Light racer locked in battle for a class championship with Jeff Kincaid, (Argonne, Wisc.), whose Traxxas0x00ae Forest County Potawatomi BFG Toyota leads the points standings.
Federico will take to the track four times during the weekend, as will several other racers. Selected racers will compete in up to seven events. Ross Hoek's (Holland, Mich.) Skyjacker Goodyear Ford entries will see action in the Nissan Time Trials for the BorgWarner Shootout, a pair of Super Stock Truck races, a pair of WSORR PRO 2WD races and the famous Shootout.
Meanwhile "Crandon Carl" Renezeder will hit the fast but punishing 1.5 mile Crandon track surface seven different times in a pair of high performance Lucas Oil Skyjacker BFG Ford race trucks.
