Mitch Dorr Looks to Challenge for TORC Stock Truck Championship
Rockford, IL ( June 15, 2009) - After a very successful rookie campaign in 2008, Mitch Dorr is keeping his eye on the top prize, the 2009 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL Sportsman Stock Truck Championship. In his rookie season Mitch finished on the podium three times, including a win at Bark River. The second generation off-road racer knows winning isn't easy, especially in one of the toughest Sportsman divisions in TORC, but with the support of family and friends, he looks to battle with the veterans to make a very exciting season.
The support from his family is very important. Mitch grew up watching his dad, Geoff Dorr, win races and championships in various 4x4 trucks throughout the Midwest. At the right time, Mitch worked along side by dad prepping the family truck and later on, the championship winning PRO-2 Ford F-150 of Scott Taylor. Even though Mitch may be one of the youngest competitors on the track, his experience fabricating and prepping off-road race trucks, along with his rookie driving successes, makes Mitch one of the front runners for the 2009 championship.
The 2009 Stock Truck rule book allows for a couple of major changes to the class allowing for better racing, especially in final laps of a race.
"The new rules allow us to move the radiator anywhere in the truck, and we can run larger diameter shocks as well," noted Mitch Dorr. "These two changes will allow our engine to run cooler with less chance of overheating due to mud, and the suspension changes will reduce shock overheating so the truck's handling doesn't go away at the end of the race."
As with last year, Fabricated Steel Products, in Rockford, Illinois and Auto Trans Design are great supporters of Dorr Off-Road Racing. New for 2009, King Shocks is offering suspension support for the Ford F-150 and the team will be racing on Goodyear tires mounted on Raceline Wheels from Allied.
The first race of the TORC Sportsman series is this weekend, June 20-21 in Crandon, Wisconsin.
