Piquet Jr. wins first offroad event in Peruvian Drivers Challenge

Nelson Piquet Jr. can add yet another victory to his racing resume.

Brazilian racer Nelson Piquet Jr. has raced and won in countless disciplines, ranging from Formula One to NASCAR and Global Rallycross. Saturday, he collected his first win in offroad competition, competing in the Peruvian stage of the 'Drivers Challenge.'

Competing against 15 others, he beat all challengers and collected the kartcross win. Tomorrow, he will go at it again, but in a Mitsubishi Mirage. He continues to make his country proud, becoming the first son of Brazil to win the event, a feat he also accomphlished in GP2, NASCAR, and A1GP.

"I am delighted with the victory in kartcross ... I want to dedicate this cup to two of my friends... Alan, who was my personal trainer in Europe and lost his mother recently, and Ayrton, family friend, whose father died last week. Tomorrow is another race and then I go to Monaco," said the winner.

Piquet's best time was a 1:00.148, beating out WRC driver and Peru's own Nico Fuchs, who posted a 1:00.293.

This is the second stage of the Drivers Challenge, which opened in Cancun, Mexico in February. The event moves to Panama next.
