Rounds 1 & 2 Kick Off in Las Vegas - Dave Jr. Exits Top Ten in Points
Las Vegas, NV -- Dave Jr. Limited Buggy Debut The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Limited Buggy Class kicked off the 2010 season much like it left in 2009. The top five finishers of Saturday's season opener at the all new purpose built track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway were no surprise to anyone. Expect for one young rookie making his first-ever start in the class. After qualifying 9th Dave Mason Jr. drove like a series regular to pilot the #365 Eleven Western Builders Limited Buggy to a 4th place finish out of 24 cars.
"That was awesome," exclaimed Dave Jr. after crossing line completing his first ever race in Limited Buggy. "That was so much fun. I'm still learning the car and what it can do, but it was so much fun running out there on the big track. I've been looking at it for several years when running Modified Kart. But to be here on the big track where all the top names compete and finish 4th is more than I could have asked for."
Round two was held on Sunday, but wasn't as kind to Dave Jr. Starting on the inside of row #2 Dave Jr. shot up to second place before the first turn. But the battle for the top positions quickly became fierce. The give and take that existed in Saturday's round one seemed to have washed away with the rain that fell overnight. Dave Jr. got hit pushing his car up the track shuffling him back to 6th position. He was settling in and looking for opportunities to move back up front. That chance was cut short when another car spun and made contact with Dave Jr. He posted a 13th place finish.
"Today was obviously not the outcome we wanted," said Dave Mason Jr. "But overall looking at the weekend I learned a lot and we are starting the season top ten in points. Our car is one piece with only minor damage. So, really, it was a great start and we have some great momentum to learn and build from here. "
Dave Jr. and his Western Motorsports team will take that momentum to Rounds 3 & 4 in Surprise, Arizona on April 17-18 at the Speedworld Off Road Park. For more info and news stay lock on to www.WesternMotorsports.org
