WHAT TO LOOK FOR AT FT. DODGE:
ROOKIE LEADS PRO-LITE AT HALF-WAY POINT - Rookie Steve Federico, Wilmette, Ill., arrives in Ft. Dodge this weekend atop the CORR Pro-Lite standings at the half-way point of the season. Through seven rounds, Federico has maneuvered his Ingles Market/Mountain Dew Toyota Tacoma to one victory - his first career truck win - and leads defending Pro-Lite champion Jeff Kincaid by 10 points. Federico finished third at the season opener in Ft. Dodge on May 19 and currently leads fellow Tacoma racer Chad Hord, among others, for the 2001 Kumho Tire Rookie of the Year award.
FIRST VICTORIES - The last two rounds at Bark River, Mich., were filled with "firsts" as Johnny Greaves, Mark Krueger, and Federico all won their first races in 2001. Greaves, DePere, Wis., won his first career Pro-4 class race in his new Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Tundra 4x4 in Round 7. The 1997-1999 Pro-Lite champion and CORR career victory leader (23), is new to the Pro-4 class this year after racing a Toyota Tundra in the Pro-2 class in 2000. Krueger, Green Bay, Wis., also earned his first career truck win at Bark River in Round 7 in his Nicolet Minerals Toyota Tacoma. Krueger finished third overall in Pro-Lite last year after a stellar career racing Sportsman Single Buggies (1999 champion).
IOWA NATIVE BRANDT LOOKS FOR VICTORY - Chris Brandt, a Council Bluffs, Iowa, native born in Sioux City, returns to his "home track" at Ft. Dodge. In Round 1 at Ft. Dodge in May, Brandt drove his National Concrete Toyota Tacoma to a resilient second-place finish. The 1999 CORR Pro Series Rookie of the Year, Brandt won a race and finished third in the other at Ft. Dodge in 2000. He was second overall in the Pro-Lite class in 2000 and third in his rookie season of '99. Brandt's four career victories is third among active drivers in Pro-Lite.
JOHNNY GREAVES, Toyota Tundra Pro-4 Driver/Co-owner of Forest County Potawatomi Race Team: "Since it was a new truck, we've had some small things to improve early in the year; but they seem to be sorted out now. The Tundra motor has been great. I think the Tundra is definitely quicker corner-to-corner than the other Pro-4s, which should favor us at the tight Ft. Dodge track."
STEVE FEDERICO, Pro-Lite Toyota Tacoma racer: "It was great to get that first truck win at Bark River. The first is always tough. And to leave on top of Pro-Lite is amazing. With Mark Krueger winning on Saturday, it shows what kind of driving talent the Sportsman Buggy classes have to offer. The Tacoma has really been solid and consistent all season. Now we just need to keep it all going the second half of the season." <pre> 2001 CORR TOYOTA STANDINGS (after 7 of 16 events():
