Mechanical troubles plague Toyota racers at Bark River
BARK RIVER, Mich. (July 13, 2003) - Defending CORR off-road champions Johnny Greaves (Pro-4) and Jeff Kincaid (Pro-Lite) saw their respective leads in the standings evaporate this weekend with mechanical problems caused by on-track incidents in the Boss Snow Plow Off-Road Challenge at the Bark River Off Road Raceway.
Bark River's land-rush start, a fan favorite that positions all the competitors side-by-side in a run for the first turn, caught both Greaves and Kincaid this weekend as their trucks sustained damage by heavy contact with other competitors. Greaves, racing the Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Tundra 4x4, finished fifth despite having a tire cut down at turn one in Saturday's race. On Sunday, he took a conservative approach only to have a fellow competitor initiate heavy contact at the first turn, damaging the Tundra's front drive axel. Greaves finished the weekend in fourth place overall, but he is only five points from the top and is tied for Pro-4 Division lead with two victories this season.
Kincaid had a great run in Saturday's race in the Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Tacoma but fell just short with a second-place finish, which allowed him to keep the Pro-Lite division lead. The three-time defending Pro-Lite champion bolted to an early lead on Sunday, but a cut tire ended any chance of victory. The 11th-place finish dropped him to second overall; hea leads the Pro-Lite Division with three victories in 2003.
Also in Pro-Lite, Chad Hord and Steve Federico had solid finishes to maintain their top 10 positions and a chance at a division title. Hord, from the town of Felch, Mich., near Bark River, earned his sixth top-five finish in seven races this season with third place on Sunday. He has driven the Boss Snow Plow Toyota Tacoma to fourth in the championship standings. 2001 Kuhmo Tires CORR Rookie of the Year Steve Federico took the Ingles/Mountain Dew Toyota Tacoma to a fourth-place finish on Sunday after leading all but the last two laps. His fourth top-four finish in the last five rounds moved Federico up to sixth overall this season.
The CORR Lucas Oil Racing Series returns to Bark River Off Road Raceway on Aug. 9-10, for Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2003 season series. All races are broadcast, tape delay, on SPEED Channel.
