Off Road Racing Returns to Heartland Park Topeka This Weekend

TOPEKA, Kansas -- Smooth racing surfaces are normally a welcome sight for competitors as they arrive at Heartland Park Topeka. Not so this weekend as the Lucas Oil Championship Off-Road Racing Series gets set to attack a brand new racing configuration on the Heartland Park dirt oval.

Championship Off-Road Racing drivers will pilot their tough trucks and buggies through ruts, over jumps, and around tight corners that will test both racer and equipment at the Lucas Oil Heartland Off-Road Championships presented by Food-4-Less. The 4,000-pound trucks of off-road racing can produce up to 800 horsepower and fly over 100-feet through the air.

The CORR series returns to Heartland Park Topeka for the first time since 2000 and '01 on Friday, July 9, Saturday, July 10, and Sunday, July 11. The race course has been configured over the top of, through, and out of the existing Heartland Park Topeka 3/8-mile banked oval dirt track.

CORR features racing in three professional classes (Pro-4, Pro-2, and Pro-Lite) and five sportsman classes (Sportsman-2, Stock, Super Buggy, Single Buggy, and Light Buggy.)

Gates open for Friday's professional class-only racing at 6:30 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. On Saturday gates open at 12 p.m., with sportsman racing scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and professional classes scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m. Sunday's racing begins at 9:30 a.m., with gates opening at 9 a.m.

All three rounds of professional racing will be taped and air later this year on Speed Channel in August and September.

Tickets are available at the Heartland Park Topeka box office during each day of the Lucas Oil Heartland Off-Road Championships presented by Food-4-Less. Adult tickets are $15 per day, with tickets for children 12 and under priced at just $1. Tickets are also available at all Food-4-Less and Falley's grocery store locations in Topeka.
