May 26, 2002 -- Dresser, WI -- On Memorial Day weekend it was the start of the 2003 Championship Off Road Racing series at the Trollhaugen Ski Resort in Dresser, Wisconsin. The perfect weather conditions gave the spectators an exciting show on a track that was extremely challenging for the racers.
The tricky ½ mile course consisted of two extreme elevation changes, a mogul section, and a fast main straightaway. The size and design of the track is nothing Scott Taylor and the CORR competitors had ever experienced. After Saturday's practice, crew chief Jeff Frana and Scott Taylor knew the Mobil1 BF Goodrich Tires Ford F-150 was dialed in for the weekend.
Scott was hyped up to begin the quest for the 2003 Pro-2 championship. As the green flag dropped Taylor made an aggressive move to get around the first corner, which landed him on his roof. The race was red flagged and every one was repositioned in the same starting order. At the restart, Scott made it through the first corner clean and in 6th position. Quickly the track developed large holes in every corner. On the 3rd lap, while battling with several competitors, the sidewall on the left rear tire was punctured. A determined Scott Taylor continued the battle as the tire's inner liner and the wheel's bead lock did their job, keeping Scott not only in the race, but finishing a respectable 3rd place.
Monday -Round 2
The Mobil 1 Ford F150 started outside in the third row. Scott quickly ducked to the inside of the first corner and coming out in the third position. By the end of the first lap Taylor moved into 1st place. The Roush prepared engine took everything Scott gave it, quickly building a 7 second lead. The BF Goodrich tires performed flawlessly, and the ATD Transmission ran cool as the Mobil 1 BF Goodrich Tires Ford F-150 came home with a first place victory.
After the weekend, Scott Taylor finds himself in second place overall in the CORR Pro-2 standings. The two-point difference between Scott Taylor and Dan Vanden Heuvel with make the next two rounds of racing at the Mole Lake Regency Casino Championships in Antigo, Wisconsin very interesting.
The first round of CORR racing action will be televised on Speed TV July 10, at 10pm Eastern Time.
Next Race: Mole Lake Regency Casino Championships in Antigo, Wisconsin. June 7-8, 2003.
