Taylor Readies Redesigned Truck for 2004 Lucas Oil CORR Season
May 10, 2004 Belvidere, IL -- With only a few weeks before the first race of the season, defending Lucas Oil CORR Pro-2 champion, Scott Taylor, is still looking to sort a couple of things out.
At the end of the 2003 season, CORR officials notified the team that the center steer chassis no longer meets the Pro-2 specifications. The team had two choices for the 2004 season, either build a completely new truck, or modify the existing 5-time champion truck. Over the winter Scott Taylor and his crew chief Jeff Frana, redesigned the existing truck with a more traditional left side steer cockpit.
A concerned Scott Taylor notes, "Just after New Years we went to work expanding the cockpit area to create the space needed to move all the drivers controls. Our biggest concern is the balance of the truck, we believe our redesigned truck will still perform the way it has during the past five seasons."
Later this week Scott has scheduled a high-speed test session at Crandon International Raceway to get a feel for "true race conditions" in the redesigned Ford F-150. It will be one of the most important test sessions since the initial construction of the truck back in 1998.
Another change this year is the move of Mobil1 from Title Sponsor to Associate Sponsor. Scott would like to thank everyone at Exxon Mobil for their support over past six years. "It has been an honor to represent Mobil 1 and Exxon in the off-road racing community. Their products are second to none. Their support has made Scott Taylor Racing one of the premier off-road race teams in competition. We will continue to use Mobil 1 products in our race truck and team vehicles," states Scott Taylor.
As of this release, the team is actively pursuing marketing partners for the Lead Title Sponsor for the 2004 season.
With the quest of his sixth consecutive championship about to begin, Scott Taylor, the winningest driver in CORR history, knows the competition will be gunning for him and his BFGoodrich Tires Ford-150. The quest begins May 29 at off-road racing's version of "Bristol", the Memorial 4x4 Rally in Dresser, Wisconsin.
