Huseman Marches Onward Scoring Valuable Series Point's Towards CORR Pro 4 Lucas Oil Championship
Riverside, California (June 12, 2007) Racing in front of a sold-out crowd in its opening weekend, "The Quarry" at Chula Vista International Raceway, Rick Huseman drove his FABTECH / Toyota TRD / Toyo Tires / Monster Energy Pro 4 to the fastest qualifying time during Saturday's CORR qualifier. Huseman posted a time of 54.474 that set the pace for the top racers in the CORR Pro 4 Lucas Oil Series.
"Right out of the box the FABTECH / Toyota TRD truck was absolutely perfect. My crew has been working very hard on perfecting the truck and they nailed the setup for the new track at Chula Vista. Toyo Tires provided us with the rubber that gripped beyond belief and the energy from Monster drove us to the number one qualifier," explained Rick.
Saturday's CORR Chula Vista extravaganza featured the nation's top CORR Pro 4 teams who trekked from around the nation to The Quarry. The FABTECH / Toyota TRD Pro 4 ran in second position battling with several different racers and that resulted in Rick getting turned around passing Adrian Cenni on the inside. Rick lost several seconds in the spin and once he was back in the action, he charged around the track chasing the leaders to the finish line. Huseman finished in a solid 5th position adding important championship series points towards the CORR Lucas Oil Series Pro 4 Championship.
On Sunday the FABTECH / Toyota TRD Pro 4 emerged with an even faster qualifying time than the previous day, posting a 53.605 lap time. With this time, Rick was second in qualifying placing him in a good position in front of the packed grandstands at The Quarry. The start of Sunday's Pro 4 race was a war zone as the nation's top off road racers all battled for position heading into the first turn. The Quarry's first challenge features a 30 degree banked 180 degree turn. Huseman was in the front of the pack as many of CORR's Dirt Warriors banged doors and bumpers for position heading towards turn two. Josh Baldwin got spun around and high-centered on the inside of the turn one berm. CORR Officials mandated a restart. As the track was under a full course yellow, Rick Huseman made his way to the hot pits because of damage sustained during the first turn melee. As the race restarted, Huseman was still in the hot pits as his crew worked on his truck. The #36 FABTECH / Toyota TRD Pro 4 rolled back on course, but at a slow pace. Rick drove his race truck around the track in order to complete the race and he finished in 8th place of the 15 race starters.
Rick commented, "We're disappointed about suffering damage that sidelined us on Sunday. We just had to drive around the track and stay out of the way of the trucks that were racing. CORR racing is ultra-competitive and finishing races and adding to the series point's total is important. We are still in contention to win the CORR Series Championship with 8 rounds of championship racing still to come. This past weekend concludes six rounds of racing and with the break in racing over the next couple months; we're headed back to the race shop to improve this race truck. The team has made some great strides in the past few months and we'll utilize that momentum to prepare for what we expect to be some great racing in the Fall.
CORR put on a great show at Chula Vista and I know our sponsors, friends and family are excited about the remainder of the season. Rick Huseman Racing could not compete at this level without the tremendous support of FABTECH Motorsports, Toyota TRD, Toyo Tires, Monster Energy Drink and the many others that help us out in a variety of ways. We'll be coming on strong at the next CORR race in mid-September."
