EXXON Superflo Series returns to Midwest Off-Road Raceway to start second half of 2001 season
Avon, Ind. (July 24, 2001) - As the 2001 CORR EXXON Superflo Series heads into the second half of the season, Pro-4 driver Rob MacCachren, Scott Taylor (Pro-2) and Steve Federico (Pro-Lite) hold the top spots in the Pro Series. With three rounds and 60 points available at the Midwest Off-Road Championships this weekend, their lead can diminish quickly.
Round 2, which was postponed due to inclement weather in May, will be made up during the July 27-29 event. The CORR EXXON Superflo Pro Series will start the weekend on Friday night (July 27) at 6:00 p.m. The Sportsman Series will race two rounds on Saturday, July 28, along with Round 9 of the Pro Series. The Pro and Sportsman divisions will race Round 10 on Sunday, July 29.
MacCachren's TrailMaster/BF Goodrich Ford returns to Fort Dodge, where he won in Round 1. Since then, he accumulated four wins along with a second and third place finish. His 38-point lead over second-place driver Curt LeDuc (130 to 92) will be tested, as LeDuc, Jason Baldwin, Scott Douglas and Johnny Greaves are eager to challenge the Tour 2000 champion in the second-half of 2001.
In the Pro-2 division, Scott Taylor's EXXON Superflo Ford captured his first win of 2001 in Round 1, and will enter the event with a 124 to 98 lead over Evan Evans. Evans and Kevin Probst moved closer to Taylor as each driver won in Rounds 7 and 8 in Bark River.
Pro-Lite Rookie Steve Federico, the 2000 Single Buggy champion, stunned the Championship Off-Road Racing world when overtook 2000 Pro-Lite champion Jeff Kincaid in the point standings in his Ingles Market/Mountain Dew Toyota. His win in Round 8 propelled him to a 10-point lead, 97 to 87.
With Kincaid, Art Schmitt, and Jason Crowder chasing him, Federico will have several trucks in his rear-view mirror as he attempts to maintain his lead both in the Pro-Lite division as well as the Kumho Tire Rookie of the Year standings.
Tickets for the three rounds of racing are $10.00 on Friday, $20.00 for Satruday, and $20.00 for Sunday. A weekend pass for Saturday and Sunday can be purchased for $35.00.
