Western Motorsports Prepares for 1000 Mile Vegas to Reno Off-Road Race
2-Race Trucks, 3 Days, 1000 Miles, Best in the Desert's Vegas to Reno the Long Way Aug. 19-23
Western Motorsports is finalizing preparations for one of their biggest events of the 2009 season. The team will enter two vehicles for the Best in the Desert's (BITD) 2009 Vegas to Reno The Long Way, 1000 mile, 3-day endurance off-road race. Team owners/drivers Rick Backus and Dave Mason will pilot the Eleven Western Builders Protruck along with the Eleven Western Builders 7200 Truck driven by Sean and Brett Backus. The team will start their 3-day journey across Nevada Deserts on Thursday August 20th in Las Vegas (NV). In addition to the race trucks, the team has also been preparing and coordinating a mass of chase vehicles and support teams that will follow the race trucks throughout the event. Each day will challenge the teams with 333-miles of exhausting and constantly changing terrain. The event will end for those who are lucky enough to finish on Saturday August 22nd in Reno (NV).
"It's a very long race and all that we have been doing to prepare over the last several weeks and months will make all the difference in this event," said Dave Mason Sr. "We have a great team of people who put in many dedicated hours of planning and preparation before the race even starts. I know we'll be ready and I'm confident in our ability to finish and contend for a win."
"It's always a balance of running fast, but also taking care of your equipment and being there in the end," added Rick Backus. "That will be our job as drivers, to take care of these well prepared trucks and get them to the finish line."
The Protruck is fresh off a race at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The team had the truck completely altered for the hill climb race and have only had a few weeks to tear the truck down and return it back to an off-road setup. In addition, the team has been hard at work to complete the 7200 Truck, which will make its debut in the Vegas to Reno race.
