Las Vegas, Nevada ~ The Tonopah "300" proves to be a big day for brothers! The brother team of Damon and Casey Jefferies, Temuecula, CA, win 1st in the 1400 Trick Truck Class, and 4th overall, in 6:13:01, in their new Ford Trick Truck, which has 720 horse-power and weighs in at 5300 lbs. The brother team of Mark and Gary Weyhrich, Troutdale, OR, driving a Chenowth, win 1st in the 1500 Unlimited Car Class and 1st Overall, in 6:00:40.

The race ran neck in neck with the top four race vehicles all day long. Along with the Jefferies and the Weyhrich teams, the two 8000 Trucks battled for that 1st place win. Kyle Taylor, San Jacinto, CA, driving a Chevrolet, won 1st in the 8000 Class and 2nd Overall, in 6:06:25, and the Dave Westhem team, Las Vegas, NV, won 2nd in the 8000 Class and 3rd Overall, in 6:10:59.

Imagine racing over 300-miles of tough desert terrain in 5 hours and 10 minutes! That was the winning time for Jonah Street, Ellensburg, WA, and Steve Hengeveld, riding a Honda, winning the Open Pro Class, in 5:10:54. Six minutes behind the leader was the race team of Shane Esposito, Reno, NV, and Andy Grider, riding a Kawasaki, in 5:16:12. The defending champion team of Johnny Campbell and Tim Staab, riding a Honda, take 3rd place this year, in 5:20:31.

The lead Quad riders rode the 300-mile course one hour and 20 minutes behind the first motorcycles. The winning Quad Pro winners were Jimmy Stephensen, Las Vegas, NV, and Eric Dollente, riding a Yamaha, in 6:29:52. Two minutes behind the leader was Doug Eichner, El Cajon, CA, and John Gregory, riding a Roll Design, in 6:32:09.

Of the 75 Car and Truck teams that started, 47 finished. Of the 86 Motorcycle and Quad teams that started, 70 teams finished. The 161 race teams entered represented 404 racers, with an entourage of over 1000 people supporting the race teams and bringing a great deal of commerce to the Nevada towns of Tonopah, Silver Peak, Dyer, Goldfield and Beatty! The Tonopah "300" proved to be a very successful race for the Best In The Desert Racing Association and for the "Silver State Series" race participants! We look forward to seeing everyone in Las Vegas on September 27, for the "Vegas to Reno" off-road adventure!
