SMD's High Hopes Vaporize at Vegas to Reno

Heber, California (August 28, 2007)-As the SMD Motorsports team rolled into Las Vegas in anticipation of the start of the 11th Annual TSCO Vegas to Reno off-road race, hopes were high for a victory. A victory would be a culmination of a string of successful finishes in the Terrible's Town 250 and Baja 500 races by the #27 Geiser Brothers built SMD Motorsports Trophy Truck. With an astounding qualifying run that placed the SMD Motorsports Trophy Truck 3rd off the line, all systems seemed set for a successful run.

The strategy called for driver Matt Scaroni to complete the first half of the race, and then hand the #27 Trophy Truck off to fellow driver and brother David Scaroni. As Matt took the green flag the truck was working flawlessly, and the only thing that temporarily slowed their progress was a flat tire at race mile 100. As the #27 Trophy Truck neared race mile 140, the engine unexpectedly sputtered and then died. After a quick diagnostic check, it was determined that the new exhaust system that had been built for the #27 Trophy Truck was causing the fuel to vapor lock after an extended period of time of building up heat. Rather than risk destroying the motor due to fuel starvation, the tough decision was made to pull out of the race.

Driver Matt Scaroni commented "We had really high hopes today for a strong run especially after qualifying so well, and after extensive testing with the new exhaust system we felt it would be an advantage. Instead it bit us, but we will be back and stronger than ever." SMD Motorsports will now compete in the SCORE Primm 300 September 7-9.

David Scaroni elaborated "While I'm disappointed for our team and our sponsors how the race went, I feel we will excel at Primm as we have done in the past with multiple victories in the Protruck and SCORE Lite classes." SMD Motorsports is eagerly anticipating the 40th Anniversary Baja 1000, and plans to be fully prepared to take the win.
