PMC Racing & Jim Beaver's streak comes to an end.
Parker, AZ - Heading into last weekends Best in the Desert Parker 425, PMC Racing and Jim Beaver had high expectations for the race. Being hometown favorites for the victory, the team was also working on a finishing streak almost 2 years in the making. While Jim continued his history-making year in 2003 by becoming the youngest driver ever to pilot a Best in the Desert Trick Truck, the Parker 425 would ultimately end the finishing streak.
After picking up two positions early in the race, Beaver was only trailing the eventual race winners Mark Miller and Ryan Arciero by seconds when problems struck. Heading up a sand wash 54 miles into the race the ring and pinion let go on the
PMC Racing/Goodyear/Ford. With chase crews unable to get into the remote area due to strictly enforced regulations by BITD, the PMC Racing effort came to an end before it ever really started.
"The truck was really running well until that point," explained Jim Beaver. "I did notice a small whining sound at about 130 mph going down the graded road into Butler Valley. When I reached the wash I tried to take it easy because I knew something could be wrong, but it didn't matter. By the time we got another rear end its was six hours later, so we decided to put it on the trailer and concentrate on the SCORE race next month."
Despite the disappointment of the Best in the Desert series opener, Jim Beaver still sits in 6th place in the Optima SCORE Desert Series Trophy Truck points standings heading into next months SCORE Tecate San Felipe 250 March 14-15. Trailing current points leader Mark Post by only 16 points, a good finish in San Felipe can put the PMC Racing team in a great spot heading into the summer stretch of races.
